Rick Maddox, Aria's principal, has some 25 years experience in consulting to the power and energy industry both locally and offshore, and has experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency and the design of infrastructure for ecologically sustainable urban developments. He has a sound understanding of the policy drivers and government programs that drive the adoption of emerging technologies as viable alternatives and is an Accredited Green Star Professional.
Approach
The best sustainability outcomes are invariably achieved when specialist consultants are engaged early in the project - preferably in the feasibility stages. This will help the development team appreciate areas where significant environmental gains can be achieved - often at relatively low cost, and before conceptual thinking becomes entrenched as the multidiscipline design effort moves forward. At this early stage it is critical that a clear understanding be gained of the fundamental objectives and drivers for sustainability performance and to identify how success will be measured. In the case of meeting energy requirements for a project, and depending on the project, an evaluation of both supply (generation / transmission) and demand side (energy efficiency / end user behaviour) initiatives and opportunities may be needed, followed by documentation of these and the establishment of appropriate targets to foster opportunities for continual sustainability performance improvement.
